Weddings at Sonnenberg Gardens

If you’re looking for a romantic garden wedding venue near Rochester, New York, Sonnenberg Gardens has everything you want.

This venue has nine stunning historic gardens and a spacious 40-room Victorian mansion. The mansion was built as a summer home in the 1800s by Frederick and Mary Thompson and is known for its Queen Anne-style period architecture. The gardens, which were created 100 years ago, are known for their impeccable design, statues, and fountains.

Sonnenberg Gardens is situated right in the heart of the Finger Lakes in Canandaigua. There are plenty of restaurants and accommodations for guests nearby, along with family-friendly parks and activities right in town.

Ceremony Locations

Sonnenberg Gardens is an impressive 50-acre estate and is a New York State Historic Park. Its colorful flower-filled gardens and scenic backdrops make for beautiful ceremony locations.

The venue is large, so there are a number of different sites for you to choose from. In case of rain, there are also tents and indoor locations available. The ceremony sites can accommodate anywhere from 50 to several hundred guests depending on weather and location. Here’s a brief overview of each one:

Primary Pergola Ceremony Site

This location sits between two gardens. Roses and belvedere make a lovely floral background in the distance. Tall white columns give the area a classic look, and stone and metal urns hold annual blooms.

Lower Rock Garden Area

This is the largest area for seating up to 250 wedding guests. It has a tranquil, natural setting with a waterfall as the backdrop.

The Mansion Veranda Stairs

At this location, you can choose between the mansion and the Italian Garden for your backdrop or foreground.
